Last weekend, the volunteer team of the TAS school walked into the community children's service center and carried out a very meaningful and heartwarming volunteer activity of organizing books.

Carefully categorized to find the right reader for each book
On the afternoon of November 16, the 6 volunteers of TAS were: Cui Ruoxi, Zhang Yichi, Chu Yikai, Fan Xuehang, He Mengjie, and Wang Yilan came to the Tangzhen Children's Service Center under the leadership of the instructor Zhu Haiyan.
In the face of the cluttered books in the reading area, everyone first divided all the books into two categories: one is the books provided by the Pudong Library, and the other is the original books donated by all walks of life or the children's service center.
Next, the volunteers began to carry out more detailed sorting work. They further subdivide the books according to the reading needs of children of different ages: the children's reading area is equipped with brightly colored and vivid picture books, cognitive cards and picture books; The reading area for primary school students covers phonetic fairy tales, mathematical thinking training, popular science encyclopedias, comics, etc.; the youth reading area has classic masterpieces, historical stories, science fiction novels, etc.; At the same time, a special area for family reading has been set up, including books related to family education, parent-child communication and so on.
During the classification process, the TAS volunteers also paid special attention to the newness of the books. They carefully screened out the old books that were severely damaged and outdated and prepared for unified processing. For well-preserved books, they are arranged more refined according to the content theme, age group, and book height to ensure that each book is easy to find.

Field trips to prepare for the next event

From 13:30 p.m. to 16 p.m., the TAS volunteers worked for 2 and a half hours in a row. Everyone has a clear division of labor, some are responsible for preliminary screening, some are responsible for detailed classification, and some are responsible for shelf placement.
Although the work was hard, seeing that the originally cluttered book corner gradually became orderly, everyone had a satisfied smile on their faces.
In the process of sorting out the books, the volunteers are also carefully observing and recording. They learned about children's reading preferences and found that younger children preferred picture books with rich pictures, while older children were more interested in science experiments and literary stories.
At the same time, the volunteers also inspected the actual situation of the activity venue, including the load-bearing capacity of the bookshelves, lighting conditions, classroom size and facilities, and seating arrangements, etc., to make full preparations for the next story meeting, reading sharing meeting and other activities.

Volunteer voices convey warm power
The volunteers who participated in the activity said: "Through this activity, we deeply experienced the joy of 'giving roses to others, with lingering fragrance in our hands', and we are also very happy to be able to help the children in the community." Seeing that the children can read happily and quietly in the neat and orderly book area, all the hard work is worth it. We hope that through our efforts, we can provide a better reading environment for children, so that more children can fall in love with reading and grow up happily in the sea of books. "
This activity not only improved the reading environment of the children's service center, but also laid a good foundation for subsequent volunteer service activities. We will continue to pay attention to the reading needs of children, regularly carry out book updates, reading guidance, reading sharing and other activities, and contribute to the growth of children in the community with practical actions.
Thank you to all the update volunteers and teachers who participated in the event! Let's walk hand in hand and light up children's reading dreams with love.
